Figure 11. The Project of Cathedral Hill Hospital with Lean Culture Other Lean techniques that the researcher obtained through analyzing collected data are “customer-supplier” standpoints and the Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) approach. Fundamentally projects utilized Lean principles will pay more attention on the demands of customers to supply exactly what they need and require; therefore, this technique significantly reduce needlessly waste of the project. Likewise, PDSA is mentioned in the continuous improvement of the project life cycle with the following definitions of each factor: Plan: Adjustments or innovations in consideration of achieving the project improvement. Do: Execution of necessary changes and modifications. Study: Outcomes of the changes. What are needed to improve? What are required to eliminate? Act: Acceptances or declines of changes. Owner participation in LIB. The responsibility of owners unquestionably affects the project performance and objectives, particularly in LIB-cooperating ones as a result of IPD and Lean characteristics that need to be decided as the beginning of the project. One of the owner’s ability is to notice the expecting changes in design and construction phases as well as the life-cycle and services. In reality, the early participation and well-timed decisions of the owner obviously reduce a considerable amount of time during the whole planning, designing, and constructing processes. As reported by project team members from
I HAVE REWORDED SOME OF YOUR AIMS…..IF YOU USE THEM FURTHER TROUGH THE STUDY CAN YOU MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHANGE THEM THERE.
Production practices have had an important role in satisfying the dynamic market. Many approaches have being developed in order to respond effectively to specific business requirements. In fact, some areas of management have focused its study on the overseeing, designing, and controlling the process of production in an effort to find the best methodology that ensures the business success and performance. However, complexities arise in this field because many variables such as costs, inventory, scheduling, suppliers, etc have to be considered in any business. Lean approach and the traditional approach are two points of view that aim to address this complexities, and those will be examined in this essay.
“Lean is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value-added activities) through continuous improvement by flowing the **product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection.” Lockwood [24].
1. What is the intervention being evaluated? What is the hypothesis for the intervention, and what theories or empirical research is used to support that initial hypothesis?
· The results of the study, the interpretation of the data by the authors and any conclusions they include at the end of the article.
Nelson, Batalden, and Godfrey (2007) describe the PDSA (plan, do, study, and act) cycle as a systematic approach to examining change and/or quality improvement methods for effectiveness. In the plan portion of the cycle, the preparation steps and the objective of the improvement project are described. The “plan” also identifies the roles and responsibilities of members of the project team, the setting, and estimated amount of time to complete the task/project and other project details. The “do” portion is experimental part of the cycle including the collection of data. The “study” portion is when the collected data is analyzed, summarized, discussed and evaluated. The “act” portion is the final step which is examines whether to initiate, modify, or eliminate the intervention based on whether the results are favorable or not. The following is a visual summary of the PDSA cycle as it pertains to my project. In my Week 2 discussion I described
1. What is the outcome of interest in this study? Describe how it would be important to patients.
This section will provide the rationale of the methods employed and highlight how the study will be performed. The study will examine the population with the sample size identified, data collection method and its analysis will be offered.
The focus of this project is to do an evaluation of the preliminary results observed in the first two years of the study. I am interested in answering the following questions:
The current organisational culture of the ARC is close to a role culture, Handy states that role cultures more familiarly exists in hospital organisational structures - which include an Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical Services and so on. The organisation is controlled by the policies and procedures; employees operate based on their job descriptions (Handy, 1993). At the end of our 2 weeks of data gathering and completing the study, the group aims to accomplish the following:
This essay is going to analyze a case study based on lean thinking principles and techniques. It is could divide in four significant parts. First, to outline the definitions of Lean manufacturing philosophy and applied the strategies to achieving, next create future state Value Stream Map, Furthermore justification Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques, which would appropriate, and critically discussed the key successful should his idea to the Evenort Company.
The study will utilize a before/after design by comparing the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the same group of people before and after the intervention (O’Leary 2014). In addition, the study will use a sequential strategy of inquiry herein; data from one method will inform the other in order to gain better understanding of the research problem. The qualitative data will be collected prior to the intervention so as to inform the intervention design, and after the intervention to follow up and better understand the outcome of the intervention. The quantitative method on the other hand, will be used to
Toyota 's Production System (TPS) is based upon “lean” principles that includes focusing on the customer, constant and recurrent improvement, and superiority through waste reduction, and combined upward and downward developments as part of a lean. “TPS is the foundation for what has become a global movement to “think lean”. Most manufacturing companies in the world have adopted some type of “lean initiative,” and this concept is now spreading to a diverse range of organizations, including the defense department, hospitals, financial institutions, and construction companies” (Liker & Morgan, 2006). Unlike like TPS, Lean is a business improvement idea that focuses on the true needs of the customer to help the business prevent waste from being built into the system. This paper will compare and contrast the concept of Lean and TPS used by Toyota.
