“ I'm so tired of sitting in those same boring classes with teachers talking the whole class period, I would like a break in between academic classes.” Schools should have a break in the day where students can have time to get away from all the teacher talking. With that said, students should have recess in schools, because minor movement at recess can alter the child's physical health, when at recess with their peers they can learn cooperation skills and negotiation skills, and children learn many things by playing at recess. Recess can also help students with their communication skills, brain development, and physical health. Having recess in schools gives students a chance to communicate with their peers. First of all, recess can allow students to relax and release energy. According to “Do You Need Recess?” by Mackenzie Carros, “...’Recess is the one break in the day to relax and have fun!’...” (pg. 31) When a student is relaxing or having fun, it helps them take a little break to run or even walk around. That can help teachers with students that have a lot of energy and disrupt class because they will lose some of that energy outside having fun. That is one reason why middle schools should have recess.

Have you ever heard a child complain to someone about something happening at school or about them being too tired to do something because of at school or from not getting enough sleep? Kids now hardly get sleep because of after school activities ending too late, from staying up late to do homework, etc. I believe that if we cut back recess just a little that kids will have more time to get their homework, or classwork finished so they don’t have to worry about it later on.
After recess it was the children’s “Planned review time” which is where they all spread throughout the classroom and explore in the classroom and play with toys they like and play with their friends. This is where the kids learn and practice their social skills, practice being kind to one another,
Ultimately, middle school student should have recess. Although some may say that recess takes away learning time for play time, which they can do during gym class they are wrong. Recess helps student be able to concentrate better in their afternoon classes, so that they can learn things quicker. Which overall they will learn more in the school year if they have recess. It may take away learning time but without recess by the end of the day teens are daydreaming. And will take way longer to learn things that should take them 5 minutes. Recess also gives students a time to make their own decisions and learn how to communicate with others when they get jobs. It also keeps students active and healthy so that they are able to come to school healthy
Recess is a period of time during the school day in which students take a break from learning and socialize with each other. The students get to do whatever they want, and they have fun with each other. A typical recess involves unstructured play which means that the students engage in their own activities without adults. Recess can also be structured which means that teachers set up mandatory activities for the students to play instead of letting them be free. There has recently been debate about whether or not recess should become structured or unstructured. Schools should agree with structured recess because the students can be able to interact within the same activity. It can also promote teamwork and teach the students how to help each other out.

There is no doubt that learning outside the classroom should be compulsory for all schools. Many of my own memories from Primary School are those in which I spent outside of the classroom making daisy chains and learning about birds at a local park. Nowadays, children are losing the opportunity to explore their natural world and have fun outside as advances in technology have caused them to play games on their tablets or iPads and the increase of cars means that it is safer for them to play inside. Many children do not go outside at all, apart from when they are at school, therefore it is extremely important that they are given as many opportunities as possible during the school day to have enjoyable experiences outside of the classroom.
During my time observing European schools, I discovered multiple differences that made me reevaluate and even question educational practices in U.S. schools. I witnessed practices that were foreign to me and contradicted what I have observed in US schools. For example, after observing the little supervision students have during their free time or breaks made me reevaluate and question this practice in the U.S. schools. During breaks, the children were able to go outside for twenty minutes or so and play with their classmates without any adults watching over them, making sure they are safe and playing safely. I was amazed when I witnessed this common practice in the schools. This proved to me that students can play responsibly and not wander off school grounds if they are given the opportunity to rise to the occasion. In the U.S., I feel we do not give students many opportunities to be independent and be
