Chapter 1, Problem 12P

Tactile feedback is an important component in the learning of motor skills such as dancing, sports, and physical rehabilitation. A suit with white dots recognized by a vision system to determine arm joint positions with millimetric precision was developed. This suit is worn by both teacher and student to prov ide position information. (Lieberman, 2007), If there is a difference betw een the teacher's positions and that of the student vibrational feedback is provided to the student through eight strategically placed vibrolactile actuators in the wrist and arm. This placement takes advantage of a sensory effect known as cutaneous rabbit that tricks the subject to feel uniformly spaced stimuli in places where the actuators are not present. These stimuli help the student adjust to correct the motion. In summary, the system consists of on instructor and a student having their movements followed by the vision system. Their movements are fed into a computer that finds the differences between their joint positions and provides proportional vibrational strength feedback to the student. Draw a block diagram describing the system design.

After some engine model replacement, an aircraft model is experiencing some aggressive nose up phenomenon which may lead to stall. To combat this problem, a new control system has been introduced to the Flight Control Computer, FCC. When activated, the new system measure the aircraft pitch from an Angle of Attack, AOA sensor to analyze either the aircraft is nosing up or down. If the pitch angle is too high, describing that the aircraft might be in a dangerously nose up position, the FCC will gain control of the horizontal stabilizer using a linear motor (FIG 1), thus bringing the nose of the aircraft down into safer pitch angle range (FIG 2). a. What is the input/output of the control system? b. Is this system is a close loop or open loop? c. What is the actuator used in this control system? d. Draw the Block Diagram to describe the control system. Horizontal stabilizer Pivot Horizontal stabilizer 000000c Jackscrew moves the angle of the horizontal stabilizer up or down. Motor Figure…

Context The needle of a sewing machine makes a repetitive up and down motion which is described by the equation y(t)=Acos(wt) To choose the settings of the device that will ensure that the needle successfully pierces the textile, you are asked to model the speed in ? of the needle as a function of time. Constraints and information The parameter A represents the range of motion (in m);The parameter w represents the angular frequency. It tells us about the number of back and forth movements that the needle makes per second; The parameter w is given in rad/s, so your calculator absolutely must be in radians mode to do the calculations in this problem;Modelization Establish the model for the y velocity of the needle as a function of time and the parameters A and w. Then test your model by calculating the speed in y of the needle at the moment and with the given parameters: Moment: 4.1 s Amplitude: 0.012 m Angular frequency: 17.9 rad/s
