Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: To describe an efficient strategy for moving the location of a $\text{π}$ -bond.

Concept introduction: When a small molecule is added to multiple bonds, it results in the conversion of one $\text{π}$ to two $\sigma$ bonds. Such reactions are known as addition reactions. This results in a decrease in the unsaturation of the compound.

In an elimination reaction, an atom or group of atoms gets removed or eliminated to form the desired product.

When a functional group is replaced by another, it is known as a substitution reaction.
