Chapter 46, Problem 7TYKF
Summary Introduction

Introduction: Fertilization is the process of union of male and female sex cells to form a zygote that grows into an individual. There are two mechanisms of fertilization, namely external and internal mechanisms. External fertilization refers to the fertilization of eggs that occurs outside the body and mostly in water. Amphibians mainly reproduce in this way. Internal fertilization is the fertilization of eggs in the female reproductive tract. Reptiles, birds, and mammals reproduce in this way.
