Chapter 7, Problem 30Q
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The list containing at least three questions which are required to ask the auto dealer of HEV for enquiry of buying or leasing HEV have to be offered with reasons.
Concept Introduction:
Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): It combines one of the energy conversion technologies, one of the energy storage systems a power unit and a vehicle propulsion system. Many combinations are possible although batteries are by far the most popular choice for energy storage.
The combination of conventional and electric and electric propulsion system is believed to offer the possibility of reducing emission and fuel consumption and giving consumers the extended range and converting refueling.

The chart shows average CO2 emissions for fossil fuel vehicles (gasoline, diesel, and hybrid gas‑electric), as well as electric vehicles. The ordinate is mg CO2 per mile driven per pound mass of the vehicle (called curb weight). For electric vehicles, CO2 emission varies in U.S. states because of the mix of fuels used to generate electricity. If electricity came entirely from solar power, there would be little CO2 associated with its production. California has the lowest CO2 emission for producing electricity and Ohio has the highest because it depends heavily on coal‑fired power plants. The chart does not include CO2 emission from manufacturing vehicles. When normalized for distance driven by each kind of vehicle before it is scrapped, CO2 emission associated with manufacturing electric vehicles is estimated to be 25–75% greater than CO2 emission associated with manufacturing gasoline and diesel vehicles. If manufacturing were included, CO2 emission associated with electric vehicles…

You and your team work at a scientific research facility that is working towards creating the newest and best batteries for cell phones. Last week, you were told you have a new boss. Your new boss has a science background but he hears that beryllium (Be) is much cheaper than lithium. Your team does not think that switching to beryllium in batteries is a good idea. You have a meeting coming up with him. You plan to convince him that lithium is a better choice than beryllium for creating lightweight, and energy efficient batteries. Use your knowledge of periodic trends to create a slide with your team to present to him! Use the following concepts and terms in your argument:
ionization energy,
Does Li or Be have a greater ionization energy?
Why does this matter?
atomic mass
