Welding The longitudinal shrinkage SL (in mm) that occurs during welding is given by the formula
where I is the welding current in amperes
L is the length of the weld in millimeters
t is the thickness of the plate in millimeters
Suppose an electrode is welded at 125 amp, the length of the weld is 270 mm, and the plate is 16 mm thick. Calculate the longitudinal shrinkage that occurs during welding. (Round to the nearest thousandth.)
