Concept explainers
The candy man. Your math instructor brings a large, opaque jar to class one day, claiming it is filled with red, blue, and green candies. He says that there are 200 candies in the jar, all mixed up. Each of the twenty students in the class takes one piece of candy from the jar at random. Let x equal the number of selected red candies, let y equal the number of selected blue candies, and z equal the number of selected green candies. Give an expression in terms of x that gives your best estimate of the number of red candies in the jar. Do the same for blue candies (in terms of y) and green candies (in terms of z).
