What does leadership mean to me? Most dictionaries define leadership as, “the action of leading a group of people or an organization.” A lot of people think that being a leader is all about having a lot of followers and success but it’s definitely more than that. To me leadership is a quality that someone acquires through life experiences, self knowledge, and through visions in making a difference. Leadership allows a person to naturally motivate and inspire a group of people to captivate in his or her vision. There are many different types of leaders that have their own ways of leading, whether good or bad. But one thing that all great leaders have in common is that they know how to attain their goals and inspire people to captivate
Leadership can mean something different to everyone. To me leadership encompasses many things. Leadership is being able to motivate others to achieve. Leadership is listening to what others have to say and acting on it. Leadership is using interpersonal skills to communicate with others. Leadership is being a good example to others.
What comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy? According to Webster's Dictionary, a leader is "one who leads." After participating in the Leadership Program, I have learned that a leader is hard to summarize.
Leadership is “the fusion of heart and mind, selfless action, encourage betterment of others, and to make a difference. It is the process of influencing
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
What Leadership Means Leadership is 'the behaviour of an individual when he is directing the activities of a group towards a shared goal'. (Hemphill and Coons, 1957, p.7) A leader is interpreted as someone who sets direction in an effort and influences people to follow that direction. How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors.
Leadership, to me, is more than just being able to tell people what to do. You have to be able to respect them, listen to their ideas, and make them feel equal. It’s not about setting yourself above everyone else; it’s the ability to influence others in a positive manner. A good leader is someone who inspires others to dream bigger or become that better person they’ve always wanted to be. Leadership entails bringing out the best in everyone, or at least being able to see their best qualities. Someone could be thrust into a leadership position, but lack those qualities, therefore, holding a leadership position doesn’t automatically qualify you as a leader. These highly specific qualities require constant learning, understanding, and growth, and are characteristics that even the best leaders are still trying to perfect.
The meaning of leadership can vary depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be asking someone to do something that I wouldn’t do myself, and it allows for members to become involved in the decision making.
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
What does leadership mean? Does it have synonyms such as administration or authority as the dictionaries claim? Is it the ability to influence the behavior of those who believe in her a group of people to follow a particular course of actions? It’s so controversial. However, leadership to me is the actions we accomplish to make the world a better place without focusing on seeking positions or other leading
I define leaders by their diligence and humility. Leaders are not those who are always appointed a leadership position however, it is the person who is working hard not for the fame or recognition but for the betterment of their team, company, country, classroom, ect.
Everyone shows leadership. Most people use leadership as a person who guides a group, to me leadership is much more than that. From my perspective leadership is a person who chases after there dreams and helps others along the way. A leader is someone who guides, and sets an example for others. Simone Biles showed leadership by leading the U.S. olympic team to there second gold in 2016. Leadership, “the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group” (“Leadership”). Leadership isn’t just a person who directs a group, leadership is also helping and dguiding others to their dreams. Even though everyone can’t be a leader, they can have faith and believe in herself/himself. Finally, leadership is someone who guides others when they aren’t strong enough to help themselves.
For me, a leader is someone who is able to, promote passion, listen intently, motivate, and most importantly, to genuinely lead by proper example. As a leader you must be confident in your own abilities, so that your followers are confident in you. In the military we often say that the best leaders, are the very best servants, and I believe that there is much truth to this statement. A leader must take the time to get to know their followers on a personal level, know their strengths, and weaknesses, and know what it takes to motivate them each individually. When each member of a team is motivated properly, to include its leader, greatness will be achieved.
To me, leadership is more than a title. It is more than just being in charge. Leadership is honestly, learning, listening, and most importantly application. Leadership means going the extra mile or two, doing the right thing no matter who’s looking, staying encouraged and encouraging other even when times are hard and you have every reason to quit. Leadership doesn’t mean you’re rich, well known, liked, or respected but it does mean you are a passionate, caring, and authentic. Leadership means you care about something so much you are willing to risk everything you have for this belief or idea. Leadership is doing whatever you can in your power to make things better for those around you.
Management in my mind and as the book reinforces the definition to be, to plan, to organize, to staff for the process, and to control the process to the end. These are consider the primary functions of the management role (p.8).
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
