Firearms seem to have such a strong impact on today’s society in America. However, since so many problems have arisen from these dangerous objects, many are calling for restrictions on what the American public can and cannot have as far as weaponry goes. For instance, an AK-47 is pointless to sell to the public if the main reason that people get weapons is to hunt! There is absolutely no reason that a deer needs thirty bullets shot straight through him to die. It only takes one bullet. Unless, of course, the animal had a bulletproof vest on and a six-inch thick shield of armor protecting it, which in that case, fire away! Another reason it seems that guns have been negatively affecting America’s society have been the extreme amount of mass
Guns and weaponry have always been a major part of the cultures of the world since the beginning of time. For the United States of America, gun use can be traced back to the colonial days, our revolutionary roots. They have helped the United States turn the table specifically in times of dire need such as the Revolutionary War. Not only have advances in weaponry influenced the U.S., they have also helped to shape events across the globe. In 1791, this was understood by the Founding Fathers while writing the Constitution, which can be seen in the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”[1]. With the advancement of guns specifically, there has been a rise in mass shootings, casualties, crime and controversy that has begun to split the United States. All a person has to do is turn on the television to a news channel, and at any given time, heartache, most often linked to guns, can be found. Some cry for a need for better gun regulation or sometimes complete abolishment for recreational use, while others cling to their weapons with claim of self-defense and economic profit. Violent crimes have been on the rise years; there has been an estimated 1.2 billion crimes of violence that occurred in the United States alone [2]. One thing is certain: gun trade and regulation boosts the economy. Last year, 301,
In light of the stereotyped, yet nonetheless accurate, obsession of firearms that the American people proudly uphold, restricting the use of guns proves to be a much more difficult feat than one would have you believe. “America 's pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment”.
Too many Americans die due to firearms. “New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof this past summer wrote an impassioned call for gun control that included a recounting of horrific gun-related statistics. Since 1968, he noted, more people have died from guns in the U.S. than on the battlefields of all the wars in American history combined” (“Technology” -Gralla 6). This country is supposed to
Gun Control has obviously gone out of control in the recent years. Look around, they are everywhere. Reducing the rate of Crime in the United States would make the country a better place to live. In the past and in the present, Mass Shootings have impacted America. Virginia Tech shooting killed 33 teachers and students (Bowman). In 1999, the
In the United States today, gun control has become a very big issue in the lives of its citizens. People arguing with each other over whether it is our constitutional right to be able to obtain and bear any kind of arms that we choose or that it only belongs to the militia. Many arguments come up over whether or not just average people can show up at a gun show and sell a gun to any person without giving them a background check first. Not only do they want back ground checks they want restrictions, and bans. Should there be bans on certain kinds of weapons? If so what kind of weapons? Should any person be able to buy a gun anytime or any place? Are people getting the right picture on what guns do for the
Gun control supporters believe that the number of guns available to the American public is much greater than it should be. There is estimated to be over two hundred million guns among the three hundred million citizens in our nation. The advocated of gun control believe that more guns lead to more crime. The number of gun related deaths in the United States is about thirty times that in the United Kingdom. This means that per every 100,000 deaths 2.9 are gun related in the United States, where as it is 0.1 in the United Kingdom. Additionally, half of the deadliest shootings in the world have occurred in the United States. Gun related crimes in the United States did decline in the 90’s but since 2005 they have been on the rise again with about 30,000 people a year dying as a result of a firearm. In 2015 there were 5 mass shootings in the United States, killing 40 people and injuring 42. This number is up from 2014, with two mass shootings.
There has always been and always will be a problem with crime in America. Gun control has become a hot topic when talking about crime prevention. Gun control is any law, policy, or practice created to regulate the possession, production, sale, and use of firearms by private citizens.
Although some people argue that there should be gun control in America, history and evidence proves that there should not be gun control in America. Many people claim that if there aren’t any guns, it keeps people more safe. They also claim that no guns would prevent mass shootings. First, guns do keep people safe. Second, guns don’t kill people. Lastly, having a gun isn’t a bad thing; it can be used as self-defense in times that it is
The Second Amendment gives the citizens of the Unites States the right to bare arms. Now this is not all inclusive, in fact Federal and State laws prohibit convicted felons, the mentally ill also drug and alcohol addicted persons from legally obtaining firearms. I could only venture to say how many laws pertaining to firearms there are in the United States, some say between six hundred to twenty-two thousand laws nationwide. Do we need more laws governing the acquisition and possession of firearms? I say NO! There are so many laws on the books presently, enforcement of the laws which remain in place should be the priority instead of creating additional restrictive ones which will ultimately hinder the law abiding citizens of this great country.
People die more than often to guns and kids are getting guns they shouldn’t have access to. For example the text states“Firearms are involved in the deaths of more than 30,000 people in the U.S. annually”(Issue Overview: Guns in America). This shouldn’t be happening and the government should be helping because innocent people are dying and they could prevent this. Moreover “The Uzi jumped back while she was firing and she accidentally shot Vacca in the head”(Fatal accident has nation asking: Why was a child allowed to fire an Uzi?By Los Angeles Times, adapted by Newsela staff09.01.14.They should know better because a little girl can’t handle an automatic weapon which is not safe.
Guns were first introduced to the public long ago, and along with them came gun violence such as Mass shootings, suicide, genocide, etc. Since guns are used mostly by law enforcement and criminals people tend to not want to be associated with firearms, much less have them in their home. The struggle with the public is just that, the fear that comes with owning a gun and having that much power which can end anyones life at anytime, most cannot and should not be able to have so much power. With this in mind it then brings up the question that if the public should even be able to attain such weapons. However, along with it being a constitutional right, owning a gun can make it safer for you in your daily and private life. Safety is the number one priority when it comes to firearms, the idea behind them is to stay safe because the world itself is not safe at all. Further restriction of weapons in america could pose problems and even though the are very strict, almost anyone can approach a distributor and buy one. This can cause complications on both ends, some say that it is a constitutional right and some say it is morally wrong. I believe that the current standards should not be changed, because it is stated in the constitution that people have the right, except there should be a thorough background check in order to see if the client aligns with mentally stable standards and has no history with criminals.
Guns have been prevalent in the United State’s culture for hundreds of years. Firearms have been, and still are being used for hunting, protection and even sport. In fact, if it was not for the help of firearms, we would not be graced with the many freedoms we have today. Currently, owning and obtaining a firearm is a controversial topic that sparks heavy emotions. Many people argue for eliminating all guns, and applying heavier regulations to prevent tragic violent crimes involving firearms. Although gun violence is inevitable, we can easily reduce the number of fatalities and injuries caused by firearms. This can be done by adding and introducing stricter regulations on the buying and selling of guns, background and mental health exams, and making our political leaders take action. These proposals will make sure these weapons are owned by responsible citizens, and not in the hands of the wrong people who intend to harm others.
Firearms should not be banned in the United States because it would deny people their rights, deny citizens a form of self-defense, prevent use for sports such as hunting and marksmanship, and give exclusive firearm access to criminals. Many gun control activists out there think that guns need to be banned completely from civilian use. While guns may need to be controlled a bit for public safety, banning them would not help anything.
Is the convenience of others worth the life of a single innocent? The answer of this question should spark such a reaction that it would make it impossible to remain neutral. And as such the world should ask the land that claims to be home of the brave; being the United States of America, what it’s stance is on gun control. Because the land of opportunity can no longer say yes to unrestricted gun sales and no the safety of its innocents; or should only the gun owners dictate the laws in the land of opportunity. America needs to enforce gun restrictions to save the lives of innocent people. To long has it allowed its own civilians to dictate the worth of the life of an innocent. Should the general consensus be to hold life to the highest value? Is it not unfathomable to allow convenience to trump safety?
The legality of having guns and possessing firearms in the United States of America is well engraved within the Second Amendment of the nation’s constitution. However, the issue of gun regulation has remained a central topic in America’s public. Some people advocate for a total ban on gun possession, while others are totally against this idea. The shooting incident in Las Vegas weeks ago has raised controversial debates in the United States of America. In fact, the White House is concerned on the stand that President Trump will take on the issue of stricter gun laws. One of the cities that has gained the attention of both the legislators on this topic is Chicago. For its reputation for its low rate of gang arrests, lax punishments for gun law violations, and comparatively weak laws in accordance with surrounding states, it is justifiable to say that Chicago’s daily shootings are a clear indicator that strict state gun laws don’t work.
