Abel Rémusat (1788–1832)

Rémusat, Jean Pierre Abel (rā-mü-zä’). A French Orientalist; born at Paris, Sept. 1788; died on June 3, 1832. He devoted himself to the study of Asiatic languages, especially Chinese, and published: ‘Researches among the Tartar Languages’ (1820); ‘Elements of the Chinese Grammar’ (1822); ‘Asiatic Miscellanies’ (1825); and ‘New Miscellanies’ (1828); besides translations and essays.
