Susan Warner (1819–1885)

Warner, Susan. An American novelist; born in New York, July 11, 1819; died at Highland Falls, NY, March 17, 1885. Her books are: ‘The Wide, Wide World’ (1850); ‘Queechy’ (2 vols., 1852); a theological treatise, ‘The Law and the Testimony’ (1853); ‘The Hills of the Shatemuc’ (1856); ‘Lyrics from the Wide, Wide World’; ‘The Golden Ladder’ (1862); ‘The Old Helmet’ (1863); ‘Wych Hazel’ (1876); and an essay, ‘American Female Patriotism.’ Her pen-name was “Elizabeth Wetherell.”
