Steam is held in two compartments (A and B) separated
by a membrane. The total volume is 777 ft, and the volume of
compartment B is 280 ft. The specific volume of the steam in B
is 9.5 ftlb, The membrane breaks, and the resulting specific
volume is 12.75 ft/min. Determine the original specific volume
in compartment A.

A piston-cylinder assembly contains air at 210 kPa and occupies a volume of 0.01m. The
piston is attached to one end of a spring and the other end of the spring is fixed to a wall. The
force exerted by the spring on the piston is proportional to the decrease in the length of the
spring. The ambient atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa. Now, the air in the cylinder is heated till
the volume is doubled and at this instant it is found that the pressure of the air in the cylinder
is 600 kPa. Sketch the process on p-v diagram and calculate work done by the gas.
A piston cylinder is affected by a linear spring with a value of 12 KN / m. This cylinder contains 0.6 Kg of saturated water vapor at a temperature of 120 ℃ . As heat is transferred to the water, the piston rises. If the cross-sectional area of the piston is 0.05〖 m〗^2 and the pressure changes linearly by volume and reaches a final value of 500kPa, obtain the final volume and temperature in the cylinder.
