Textbook Question
Chapter 1, Problem 4TBP
History may not be your favorite subject, especially learning about a bunch of long-dead scientists who made discoveries that we now take for granted. With an open mind, you may actually find the information interesting and learn a few things you didn’t know before.
During your examination of the topics in this chapter, consider the following:
How does awareness how diseases are spread help to break the chain of infection?

The final unit of this course focuses on the connection between epidemiology and the COVID-19 pandemic. You have read about the pandemic and our current understanding of the disease. You are also aware of how the virus spreads from person to person. For your discussion assignment:
Discuss how COVID-19 has impacted you or your community. In your response, discuss any interactions you have had with public health agencies or epidemiologists. For example, were there posters or advertisements that you saw with guidance on how to avoid COVID-19? What do you see as the largest impact of the pandemic on your local region or country?
As a nurse supervisor working in a infectious disease ward facility you must know the infection prevention and control measures to prevent cross contamination.
How will you consider that you are an expert, applying Patricia Benner's Novice to Expert Theory. Elaborate your answer.
I need help answering this question to my professor:
The topic for the discussion was this one:
Some potentially pathogenic bacteria and fungi, including strains of Enterococcus, Staphylococcus, Candida, and Aspergillus, can survive for one to three months on a variety of materials found in hospitals, including scrub suits, lab coats, plastic aprons, and computer keyboards. What can hospital personnel do to reduce the spread of these pathogens?
My answer was this one:
To reduce the spread of these pathogens an infection control protocol should be followed. Some ways in which this could be reduced is by using desinfectants, sterilization, hand washing, and disposing techniques. In addition, I currently work as a dental assistant at Jackson Main and the protocol we use is hand washing our hands for at least 20 seconds before and after seeing every patient. We use CaviWipes to disinfect every surface and autoclave every single instrument after every use. Also, we make sure to…

- We are a product of our genes, so they say; however, we are also populated by microbes. Some we cannot do without, but others wait around until our defenses are down and then they strike. So I am having a problem answering this question and I need your help. Hoping for a response and thank you so much. Instruction: The answer must be in 2 paragraphs and each paragraph must have a minimum of 4 sentences. In addition, please indicate your source(s). Thank you so much. Question: How are parasites classified?arrow_forwardThe chain of infection is an important aspect of life for everyone, especially those who work in the health care field. It is up to everyone to do what they can in order to break the chain of infection, as an intact chain of infection is how small disease outbreaks turn into large outbreaks, and short hospital stays turn into long ones. For this week's forum, please answer the following questions in your initial post: 1. Study the chain of infection, and in what place(s) do you think it might be the easiest to break the chain of infection? Please provide reasons to support your assertions. 2. If you are a patient in the hospital, what makes it more likely that you might contract a disease? 3. What are the responsibilities of the health care providers to prevent you from contracting a disease in the hospital?arrow_forward

Her work not only brought her fame but her death as well; she developed aplastic anemia due to radiation exposure. She experienced recurrent and prolonged infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic, and fungal). Apart from suffering from recurrent and prolonged infections, Marie Curie also experienced the following signs and symptoms: fatigue, rapid heart rate, pale skin, easy bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts, and dizziness. Bone marrow transplant was not an option at that time and so blood transfusion was the treatment of choice. Explain the reasoning behind these other signs and symptoms that Curie experienced. How could you interrupt the cycle? Given the recent outbreak of Coronavirus, what are the standard precautions that a healthcare professional should follow? List 4 types of personal protective equipment (PPE). For infectious diseases to spread, several necessary steps must occur. These steps, or stages, are known as the infection cycle. Each stage or step in the infectious process must occur for the spread of infection to take place. Infection control is based on the fact that the transmission of infectious diseases will be prevented when any of the levels in the cycle are broken or interrupted (see the “Breaking the Infection Cycle” Quick Reference Guide). The steps are: Infectious agent Reservoir Portal of exit Means of transmission Portal of entry Susceptible hostarrow_forward
