In the nineteenth century, Cuvier, Lamarck and Darwin proposed the theories of evolution. Cuvier proposed that species does not change. The changes in the species is due to the catastrophical changes. Lamarck proposed the theory of inheritance of the acquired characteristics. Darwin proposed the theory of natural selection.
