The cross comparison of genotype in the CRISPR with the sex-linked
Introduction:
The term CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat sequences) refers to the sequences of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) found in the prokaryotes. It consists of short and repetitive base sequences. The short segments of spacer DNA follow the repetitive base sequence.
Explanation of Solution
The sex-linked genes are responsible for Mendelian inheritance. These genes are present on the X and Y chromosomes. The genotype, that is, the number and types of genes are inherited in a human being, depends on its sex. It is because of the difference between the X and Y chromosomes.
CRISPR is the new approach of gene editing, that is, disrupting or changing the sequence of specific genes. It is done in order to alter the gene product and its genetic constitution. The genomes of many prokaryotes consist of 24 to 48-base pair (bp) short palindromic sequences of DNA. It is followed by distinctive 24-bp spacer DNA. Thus, each repeating unit consists of the same CRISPR sequences with different spacers.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the genotype in the CRISPR consists of 24 to 48-bp short repetitive sequence followed by unique 24-bp spacer DNA. The genotype of sex-linked Mendelian inheritance consists of X and Y chromosome.
