American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII):
- ASCII stands for “American Standard code for Information Interchange”.
- ASCII is a standard “character encoding” scheme, where characters are represented in the form of numeric codes.
- The numeric code for lower and upper case alphabets, punctuations, numbers and special characters are represented using ASCII codes.
- ASCII code value begins with “000” and ends with “127”.
- Seven bits are used to indicate an ASCII character.
- Additional 128 larger character sets are indicated using eight bits in ASCII.
Storage and representation of character:
- Characters stored in the memory are read in the form of ASCII codes (numeric codes).
