Chapter 30.4, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The reason why a life cycle cannot be evolved to maximize feeding as well as reproduction simultaneously.
Introduction:
In most animals, the young ones are considerably different from the adult. The newborn animals go through a life cycle, which involves many different stages in order to become an adult capable of reproduction. In these animals, one of the stages of the life cycle is specialized for feeding and another for reproduction.

Which of the following statements explains what he meant by this? a)Some animals eat at lower trophic levels than others b)Some animals have greater effects on their ecosystem than others c)Some animals are more important to energy flow through their ecosystem d)Some animals are in greater abundance than others e)Some animals eat at higher trophic levels than othersarrow_forwardWhich of the following statements best describes the advantage of sexual reproduction in organisms? It reduces genetic variation, which may be useful in the future. It prevents adaptation in a changing environment. It yields offspring with novel combinations of traits. It eliminates the possibility of harmful traits being passed on. tnf: Which of the following statements best describes the functions of villi and microvilli? Villi and microvilli form the inner layer of epithelial tissue in the small intestine and increase the absorption of nutrients from chyme. Villi and microvilli absorb food through the small intestine via smooth muscle contractions called peristalsis. Villi and microvilli increase the surface area of the small intestine, which increases the absorption of nutrients by diffusion. Villi and microvilli increase the surface area of the small intestine, which aids in the absorption of bile salts and vitamin B12.arrow_forwardJenny is identifying insects and finds a camo moth. - What is the difference between a K-strategist and an r-strategist? K-strategists and r-strategists differ in the longevity of life and the number of offspring. K-strategists have a longer life span but produce fewer offspring, and r-strategists have a shorter life span but produce more offspring. K-strategists are species whose generations consist of short-lived organisms that produce no offspring, and r-strategists are species whose generations consist of short-lived organisms that produce few offspring. K-strategists are species whose generations consist of long-lived organisms that produce many offspring, and r-strategists are species whose generations consist of short-lived organisms that produce few offspring. R-strategists are species whose generations consist of long-lived organisms that produce few offspring.
