Concept explainers
Introduction:
Blood consists of two main elements: plasma and formed elements. Plasma is a yellow fluid of connective tissue. Plasma contains certain proteins like albumin, globulins and fibrinogen.
Formed elements are erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (WBCs) and thrombocytes (platelets). These elements are produced in bone marrow. Red bone marrow has pluripotent stem cells which divide and formed RBCs, WBCs and platelets.
Answer to Problem 1A
Correct answer:
The formed element in the blood does not contain organic molecules and salts. Therefore, option (d) is correct.
Explanation of Solution
Reason for the correct statement:
The formed element of blood contains only three types of cell: RBCs, WBCs and platelets. Organic molecules and salts are not present in blood cells.
Option (d) is given as “organic molecules and salts”.
As “the organic molecules and salts are not the formed element in the blood”, it is the right answer.
Hence, option (d) is correct.
Reason for the incorrect statement:
Option (a) is given as “red blood cells”.
Red blood cells (RBCs) are formed element of the blood cells. So, it is a wrong answer
Option (b) is given as “white blood cells”.
WBCs are part of the formed elements of blood cells. So, it is a wrong answer.
Option (c) is given as “platelets”
Platelets are part of formed elements of blood cells. So, it is a wrong answer.
Hence, options (a), (b) and (c) are incorrect.
The formed element in the blood does not contain the organic molecules and salts.
