Critical Thinking Process

The human brain is capable of perceiving and interpreting information or stimuli received through the sense organs (i.e., eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin) (Weiten, 1998). This ability to perceive and interpret stimulus allows the human being to make meaningful sense of the world and environment around them. However, even as the human being is able to perceive and interpret stimuli information through all sense organs, stimuli is most often or primarily interpreted using the visual (eyes) and auditory (ears) sense organs (Anderson, 2009). However, for the purpose of this paper, the visual information process will be examined.

The term sensation is used when referencing the process of sensing the environment through taste, touch, sound, smell, and sight (Goldstein, 2014). Moreover, it is the process that occurs once the sensory receptor experiences stimulation, which in turn produces nerve impulses that are sent to the brain to be processed in its raw form, then perception comes into play (Goldstein, 2014). The first thing that I learned about perception was earlier discovered by a psychologist by the name of Max Wertheimer. He discovered that our body clearly separates images into figures

A belief is something that individuals or groups think, such as believing in a god. Where a Value would be the living life in the ways a religion expects, this value will be made from the belief that the person or group has in their God. In the book “Asking the Right Questions, A Guide to Critical Thinking” M. Neil Browne and Stuart M. Kelley discuss the ten steps to critical thinking. In the following pages I will apply these steps to a memo that was sent to Mr. Robert Shaw of Triad Insurance Company of Indianapolis and discuss them in detail. 1. In a college paper the audience is almost always the professor. Knowing this the author would keep his paper very formal by using proper grammar, and appropriate word choice.and would make sure to add literary devices that the professor looks for. For example, if the professor enjoys imagery, then the student would try to fill his/her paper with that literary device. In certain situations the student may have to read their writing in front of the class. When the audience involves the classroom, one should try to structure his/her paper in a way that would not generalize broad topics, because a classroom scene isn't whole there are many cultural backgrounds to take in consideration. A way to avoid generalization is to not give a single perspective on vast topics. For example, if one is talking about Trump, they should write about a liberal's perspective, as well as a conservative's perspective.

Humans have five means of sensing information, which are hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and seeing (Breedlove & Watson, 2013). All incoming information is sensed in a similar way for each of the five modalities. The sensory receptor organs filter the information that we come into contact with by deciding which information to pay attention to and which information to ignore. The event that activates the sensory organ is referred to as a stimulus; hence, feeling a finger on your arm, hearing music, or seeing an object are all referred to as stimuli. Additionally, we have receptor cells within or sensory organs, the receptor cells perceive specific types of simulation and convert the sensed stimuli

The perceptual process enables us to perceive the world through our senses of sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch. In particular, our visual system processes vast amounts of information in its environment. Rather than perceiving elements separately, our brain organizes patterns, objects, and shapes into whole forms that we can understand. The gestalt grouping principles of visual perception describe this organization as a set of principles that explain how we perceive and organize visual stimuli.

In life, we are often capable of much more than we ever know. Our bodies and minds will automatically choose the path of least résistance, but when we have the right amount of motivation and encouragement, we can surpass any roadblock. The Module Two introductory video discussed the 33%-33%-33% principle. Thirty-three percent of people will simply disagree with the on decisions being made. Another thirty-three percent will agree, and the last thirty-three percent will not care. In order to shift mindsets, create buy-in, and trust the decision-maker’s intentions, it is imperative that he or she is organized, thoughtful, and caring during the decision-making process. Perception is the way we view the world around us. It helps us understand others and life. There are three main steps to perception: Selecting, organizing, and interpreting. These steps help create our perception, and happen so quickly that most of the time we aren’t even aware that we are doing it. The step of selecting is one of the most important, it involves selective exposure, selective perception, and selective memory. The things we select determine how we perceive life, and our behavior. Although the other steps to perception are important, this essay will be focusing on the concept of selecting.
