For the most part I enjoyed my time spent in that course. I definitely plan on attending future screenings, as a community member. However, I do feel that the course has some room for improvement. My first suggestion would be opening to the public at a later time because it was distracting having other people in the room, holding conversations, while you were giving us feedback or instructions on assignments. Another suggestion would be possibly providing your students with examples of “A” worthy reflections because half of the time did not know what you were expecting of us and anything that came to mind while writing these critiques sounded like a research paper. In addition to examples of well written reflections, adding more detailed comments …show more content…
The reason why the film on Hedy Lamarr was one of the most interesting to me is because it shined a light on the flaws of our society, such as the importance of gender roles and beauty standards. It revealed how much influence a society has on an individual’s life. It had me feeling a wide range of emotions all the way from anger to sadness, which is what I believe a great film has the ability to do to anyone who is watching it. On the other hand, the film A Billion Colour Story initially caught my attention because it was screened in black in white but it also emphasized the issues in India, which I feel are universal issues (to an extent), like problems with religion and marriages. It gave me the opportunity to learn a little bit about the Indian customs and traditions and allowed me to relate them back to my culture. It showed me that our cultures are very similar in the way they think but they also have their differences. While films like Columbus and electric shadows didn’t really have much importance, well at least not in my eyes. The reason these films did not have much importance to me is because they were the least informative when compared to all of the other films that were screened this …show more content…
However, If I did have the time I would totally join and even possibly run for an officer position. 7. Based on all of the films we watched, what have you learned that interested you the most or surprised you regarding another culture? Based on all of the films we watched, I have learned that issues that are still prevalent in our society, such as, gender roles, religion, and beauty standards are the ones that interest me the most. The reason I say that is because my favorite films to be screened this semester revolved around those issues. One thing that surprised me about the Indian culture is the struggles that come with interfaith marriages. Although all of these issues are still current, there seems to be a slow progress toward resolving them or accepting them. 8. Would you recommend this course to other students and friends? Why or why not? I would recommend this course to other students and friends because it’s an enjoyable learning experience, but I would inform them about the amount of course work that is demanded from this course. And, if the course load worries them and is the only reason that is holding them back from taking the course then I would inform them about being able to attend as a community member, which I am sure will sound much
There was such a variety of topics covered in this course and I wish that I had taken it in a classroom instead of online. With this online course, I feel like the material went a little too quickly. If I were in a classroom setting, I feel that
t is our goal to accommodate provider requests to add patients on to be seen. However, please refrain from scheduling patients from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm. If you receive a requests from a provider to schedule patients during those hours, please contact me or Leigh Tuttle for approval. We need to ensure that all staff are taken lunch and also ensure that we have staff availability to assist the provider during those hours.
What are some key things you have learned about this culture through reading the scholarly literature?
Another movie I found interesting was “Hotel Rwanda”. The film Hotel Rwanda shows the significant historical events that inform about the major events of world history. The movie begins in Rwanda in the early 1990’s, when racial tensions between the two major ethnic groups, Hutus and Tutsis, have led to a civil war. Hutu’s are the members who are the Bantu speaking people that forms majority of
Over the past two weeks I have acquired 5 new schools. All of which are located in District 15. The DOE’s PreK For All program begins this school year, and thankfully, I was able to have the District 15 PreK director agree to implement the Sanford Harmony Program at her four sites. P.S. 676 has also agreed to implement during the 2015-2016 school year. I am in the process of rescheduling trainings that’s were scheduled during the first two weeks of school, due to the holidays. My first public school training on the new material will he held on 9/14/15. I am looking forward to trying out our new training PowerPoint and material.
The first standard I demonstrated was standard one. Standard one is supporting instructional opportunities. When Mrs. Levan had a sub, I assisted in delivering instruction to the class. Mrs. Levan wrote in her lesson plan to have me paint the student’s hands to look like spiders. I painted both of their hands black and put their handprints on their spider webs. The students had a fire drill while I was there, so I walked at the back of the line to make sure all of the students made it outside safely. At the end of the day, I had the students come over to the carpet and I read a firefighter book to them. The students enjoyed me reading to them.
I personally have enjoyed this course. I was very nervous the first few months trying to make sure I didn’t miss any assignments and understood the reading material. I learn a lot about inequality, social injustice, social structure, social identity, and how to view things through a sociological perspective. This course has prepared me to observe various issue in society in a whole different way. We must educate ourselves about our history to know the differences, if not we will become a product of our environment. Therefore, “it’s easy to slide into the belief that things have always been the way we’ve known them to be” (Rosenblum & Travis, 2012, P.503).
On the Friday the 6th of January, I was very disappointed to be to be told about a silly and dangerous where chairs were thrown from the top window of WD302.
The outcome was more than satisfactory: from the very beginning of the course I was able to construct the needed theoretical background that would allow me to understand concepts in a whole. For me, learning is like climbing a staircase, that is, one step a time. Since there were no grades or exams, I felt, for the first time in my life, to enjoy learning for the pleasure of it. Having other people of about the same age group and similar education was also good because questions were asked by people that have a life full of experiences. Naturally information is exchanged among the students about good books and web information on the subjects. You would be surprised to know how many people that, apart from being old, have a rich and clear perspective of life in its many features. Also, some of them are my pen pals (e-mail, naturally) and we often exchange ideas and opinions. After finishing the course I had the required guidance to advance in the field by myself so I opened an account in Twitter to be informed of recent discoveries in the fields of my
I place a call to AL 199019 to schedule a LCDC an appointment with her. She had some time to thinking about our conservation and is unwilling to go residential treatment for 90 days. The client said I am willing to continue my LCDC services for a few more weeks only. She reported having an appointment with Dr. Lemiar a psychiatrist on July 27, 2015 at 10:00am at Legacy Clinic. The client said (“I trust him with my life”). The LCDC will continue to move client through the stage of change.
I am not skilled in public speaking by any means and I know that with time and practice I can gain more confidence. I enjoyed picking the clips for the presentation because I felt it gave our presentation more liveliness and the attention of our audience. It also gave us time to gather our thoughts and remember to speak calmly and collectively, even if our goal was not fully attained. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish in the limited time frames we were able to meet. My personal feedback on this project that though it was challenging at times, I enjoyed being able to explain it in a way that was easy to understand from a student-to-student perspective. Sometimes I believe we as students get “lost in translation” and are afraid to ask to break ideas down into laymen terms. This project was a great opportunity to teach others the way that we think and understand concepts and general ideas. This class has opened my eyes to viewing videos and life in a different light. For example, in high school, by default a student would read a poem in English class and break down its’ hidden meeting, and from then on you subconsciously do that with everything you read. As for this class, I feel that yes I do review films for the hidden meaning but also to take a step back and enjoying the moment in which I am
Throughout the duration of GSW 1120, I have learned to critique articles, write an argument synthesis, do an annotated bibliography, and research properly. Now with this current information I have learned, I can cognitively plan out what I will write in future papers.
The difficulty that I have dealt with in this course is not necessarily concerned with presentation or knowledge of the material, but rather the organization and miscommunication that comes along with it. I understand that from the start there has been plenty of barriers that we had to push through, both as students and the professor, but nonetheless it hindered our ability to really take off on our own. Each time I attempted to sit down and learn the course material, it would change all of a sudden. Not in terms of the material itself, but the way in which both the TAs and the professor wanted it to be facilitated. This raises the second issue, and the one I found the most challenging. The miscommunication between the TAs themselves, as well as the professor, and having Caroline and Bobby’s presentation to top it all off. I felt that nobody was on the same page in terms of how they wanted parts of the
The topic for my research project is “Why are same-sex marriages a social taboo in India?” I have studied this puzzling social fact by analyzing the data that I have collected by interviewing over forty people who were born and are currently living in India. This question interested me because as an Indian studying in the US, I witnessed the disparity between the two countries’ acceptability towards same sex marriages. I questioned that if same-sex marriages is becoming increasingly acceptable in the United States, why is it still such an interdict in India? When I researched this further, I found that most people say that their religion prohibits homosexuality, which baffled me especially since India has a rich history of homosexuality?
The map of India seems simple at first, but, upon learning more about it, the map becomes very complex as you learn that there are many different religion practices and cultural beliefs. India is a country where the citizens’ live strictly by religion and tradition, by following their castes. It is that, that keeps them strong and has helped them survived for hundreds of years. Correspondingly, in Aparna Sen’s Indian/English movie, “Mr. and Mrs. Iyer”, the main actor, Raja, survives the dangerous journey solely because he is associated to a “Tamilian Brahmin” caste. The film highlights the two main religions – Hinduism and Islam and is portrayed by two characters, Meenakshi Iyer (Konkona Sen) and Raja Chowdhury/Mr. Iyer (Rahul Bose). The movie revolves around violence due to religion conflicts and companionship between Meenakshi and Raja who have nothing in common. Through these two renowned actors, the viewer gains insight on the Indian religion and cultural beliefs. Precisely, the caste and religion differences are exposed in the film by the characters.
