Organizational Structure Of The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross (ARC) is an organization that was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton and established itself as the most well-known emergency relief organization devoted to the care of war victims, disaster victims, and the suffering worldwide. Unfortunately, the ARC has been plagued with a high executive turnover, slow response to disastrous events, and mismanagement of donation funds. These problems now have the ARC facing another problem, fixing their credibility for the future.

Whether it is a local flood or a national disaster, there is always one organization there to help, the American Red Cross. Each year the organization turns down no one in need, benefits 70,000 people in disaster relief, along with saving three lives every time a person donates blood. The American Red Cross has evolved through the years and is still known as one of the most important nonprofit organizations in the world.

Now there are plenty of other major issues that can threaten my role as split department manager. Examples include: change management, employee loyalty, and process management. When it comes to change management, the organizational structure can become a huge issue. In other words, I am referring to the food chain of a health institution (levels of authority). The purpose of an organization structure is to make strategic decisions while also discussing how these decisions are made in the company’s best interest. Each organization must have a structure of the authority defined and distributed to help in the organization of the tasks and functions with the aim of achieving the objectives of the organization. An organization structure offers details of the formal structure of the authority in the organization. It is essential to study the organization structure of the organization in order to understand the functioning of the organization. This paper examines the organization structure of the nursing department in Kingston Centre hospital. The paper will look at the nursing and the nursing service management department in the hospital (Burke, 2013). The hospital is selected because I have been able to interact with the facility many times. I have been able to work in this department hence I understand the organization structure and the services offered in the department.

Undoubtedly, the American Red Cross has done many wonders over the course of its existence. Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and internationally or saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to help the world become a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of “Superstorm” Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time (“Top 20 Accomplishments”).

Organizational structure refers to the way that an organization arranges people and jobs so that its work can be performed and its goals can be met. Organizations over the past few decades have come to realize two things, there are a limited number of people in the government that are able to respond to natural disasters or large scale disaster effectively and that the government only has so many available resources to offer during a time of crisis. Another fact is, that private sector companies and non-profit entities, such as the Red Cross, have the ability to be more prepared due to their vast network of stores and distribution centers and their leisure, they indeed do have a unique responsibility

What separates the organizational structure of a healthcare organization from a business, essentially that the hospital 's organization is chiefly founded on the amalgamation of medical and administrative staff (Carayon, et al., 2014). In the of the chain of command hierarchy, there are various levels of professional’s that fall under other levels within the facility, and each staff member is organized in regards to departments that are related to their (KSA’s) skills, attributes and job duties (Carayon, et al., 2014). These systems are comprised with the processes in decision making and determining the best actions to consider between the difficult alternatives when pertaining to patient care.

During my clinical experience at Our Lady of Fatima hospital I have observed how important it is for organizations to have structure. When an organization has structure it increases their chances of accomplishing their units goals. Structure provides for better coordination and use of available resources. In order for an organization to build structure they must start off using an organizing stage.
