Interpretation:
The structures of two isomers of methionine sulfoxide and their stereochemical relationship are to be stated.
Concept introduction:
Sulfides are oxidized rather than carbon when reacted with common oxidizing agents. Sulfides are oxidized into sulfoxides and sulfones. Sulfoxides are obtained by the direct oxidation with one equivalent of hydrogen peroxides and sulfones are obtained by the direct oxidation with two moles of hydrogen peroxide.
