Introduction:

The central organ of the nervous system is the brain. It consists of the cerebrum, brain stem, and cerebellum. The largest part of the brain is cerebrum. It is connected to the spinal cord by the brain stem. The long, thin tubular structure that starts from the brain stem (medulla oblongata) and ends at the lumbar region of the vertebral column is called the spinal cord. The spinal cord is composed of nervous tissue.
