Statins are the class of medicines which has a mechanism of action of inhibiting activity on enzyme HMG CoA reductase. Statins are useful for controlling blood cholesterols level.

Stanol esters also known as Phytosterols are produced in plant cell membrane. Stanol esters have similar structure like cholesterol and they block the absorption of cholesterol and reduce the level of cholesterol in blood.
