Chapter 8, Problem 2TQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The significance of protein secretion by cells into their environments.
Introduction:
The term ‘secretion’ means movement of a substance out of the cellular cytoplasm/cell. Protein secretion systems are responsible for the transportation of protein into the external environment. Various transport systems export proteins to different locations. The transportation of protein to the periplasm is a complicated process because proteins are usually exported in an unfolded form into the periplasm. Thus, they need a set of chaperons to fold them properly.
