Facility layout study. Facility layout and material flowpath design are major factors in the productivity analysis of automated manufacturing systems. Facility layout is concerned with the location arrangement of machines and buffers for work-in-process. Flowpath design is concerned with the direction of manufacturing material flows (e.g., unidirectional or bidirectional; Lee, Lei, and Pinedo. Annals of Operations Research, 1997). A manufacturer of printed circuit boards is interested in evaluating two alternative existing layout and flowpath designs. The output of each design was monitored for 8 consecutive working days. The data (shown here) are saved in the file. Design 2 appears to be superior to Design 1. Do you agree? Explain fully.

- This is System Modeling & Simulation questionarrow_forwardA farmer has recently acquired a 110 hectares piece of land. He has decided to grow Wheat and barley on that land. Due to the quality of the sun and the region's excellent climate, the entire production of Wheat and Barley can be sold. He wants to know how to plant each variety in the 110 hectares, given the costs, net profits and labor requirements according to the data shown below: Variety Cost (Price/Hec) Net Profit (Price/Hec) Man-days/Hec Wheat 100 50 10 Barley 200 120 30 The farmer has a budget of US$10,000 and an availability of 1,200 man-days during the planning horizon. In addition, the farmer would like to get a profit of at least $3000. Generate the mathematical model for the optimal usage of land area to produce wheat and barley. Using graphical method to optimize land usage, how many hectares are to be used for wheat and barley.arrow_forwardCreate necessary columns of data necessary to solve the problem a. A group of 25 engineers having widely differing amounts of experience (measured in months of experience) was given the same control design project. The results of the study are given in the following table with y 5 1 if the project was successfully completed in the allocated time and y 5 0 if the project was not successfully completed. a. Determine whether experience is associated with the probability of completing the task. b.
