Methanogens are methane-producing Archaea. Methanogenesis is the production of methane by methanogens. Methanogenesis is an extremely important process for the environment as methane is an important greenhouse gas. Cofactors involved in methanogenesis increasingly reduce carbon and transfer the hydrogen to each enzyme in the pathway.
