Associative entity:
Associative entity is a used in entity-relationship theory and also in relational
- An entity placed between two entities which has a relationship with these entities.
- Each entity has a “one” connection and the associative entity has “many” connection on each side.
Association entity:
The relationship between two entities is called as association. A pattern of two or more entities are associated to each other by an associative entity.
- The user can turn a many-to-many relationship into an association relationship by including a non-key column to the intersection table.
Example:
Consider an example of association relationship is as follows:
- “Book” and “Author” relationship in N:M is by simply adding a non-key column to the “Intersection_Table”.
