Women are twice as likely to develop this disorder as men, and children can also develop it. It is important to educate yourself about anxiety in order to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Understanding the definition, symptoms, treatment resources surrounding anxiety will help create a society of educated individuals who are less likely to judge others. Since mental illness cannot be seen by the naked eye, and is imperative to educate others. The definition of anxiety are a group of mental illness that cause people to feel excessively frightened, distressed, or uneasy. When people are going through a panic disorder or panic attack, they feel sudden feelings of terror that can strike repeatedly without warning. So one minute they can be happy and cheery, and once a panic attack sets in, they would go from cheery, to depressed right that second without warning. OCD is repetitive, intrusive, irrational, or unwanted thoughts. So when people are going through this symptom, they might think of dying, or think of they are not worthy in this world, and that might lead to someone’s suicide. PTSD is when people experience or witness a traumatic event such as abuse, a natural disaster, or extreme violence. People with this symptom most likely have been in a war, and they can’t accommodate in a more peaceful area. So, all they think about is either getting shot, or bombs blowing up in their area. Phobias is a disabling and irrational fear of something that poses little or no actual danger for most people. Like if people are scared of spiders or arachnophobia, it causes them to scream and act irrational to something that poses little or no threat to them. GAD is a severe, chronic, exaggerated worrying about everyday events. People with this symptom are getting worried about work, school, housework, chores, cooking, etc. Social Anxiety Disorder is an intense fear of social situations that leads to difficulties with personal relationships.
