Thesis Statement : Early Anxiety Essay

Anxiety is defined as the body’s natural response to danger, an automatic alarm that goes off when you feel threatened, under pressure, or are facing a stressful situation. A little bit of anxiety can actually help a person stay attentive and on track. If we did not feel a certain level of pressure at a job or school, then perhaps we wouldn’t care about it as much. We might slack or leave a few loose ends that may cause us to fall behind. A little bit is actually beneficial, but unfortunately there are people who have to deal with anxiety as part of a mental illness or disorder. There are different types of anxiety which include: general anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social phobia.

The “Age of Anxiety” is a brief description of what life was like in the years 1450-1750, an age of overflowing anxieties that lead to a violent release through widespread witch hunts. As a result of the anxiety in Europe, the persecution and torture of men and women accused of witchcraft occurred over this 300-year span. It all started with building anxieties in Europe over events such as the 1525 Peasants War and the 1618 Thirty Years War over religion, which caused unease and worry. This anxiety also appeared in the form of religious change between protestant and catholic along with the emergence of the inquisition which created the fear and paranoia of the devil who preyed on the weak and wanton, who were often seen to be the women in society.

Anxiety has both mental and physical effects, it is our internal alarm system to put our mind on a physical alert and prepares for us a "fight or flight response". This alarm can go away when we know that everything is okay and there is no danger nearby or nothing is going to happen but sometimes our alarm will not shut off and then an anxiety problem persists. There are different types of anxiety disorders and I will discuss generalized anxiety disorder

Anxiety: The inward fear of a pending danger which is associated with phobia, and could be exhibited physiologically (Increased; Blood Pressure, Respiratory rate) and/or psychologically (agitation, insomnia, confusion). As humans, we suffer mild anxiety once awhile when we encounter a stressor and that does not require any attention but it becomes a problem when it turns chronic.

What is an anxiety disorder?- Anxiety is “a mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities...” Anxiety disorders involve more than temporary fear or worry. There are numerous disorders involving anxiety, which includes: social phobia, panic disorder, separation anxiety disorder, etc.

The definition of anxiety are a group of mental illness that cause people to feel excessively frightened, distressed, or uneasy. If it’s not treated within a person, it can lead to an affect on daily activities such as shopping, or going outside can be extremely difficult. In the past,

Anxiety is something that many people go through all over the world. It affects about 18% of the United States population.      Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps some one deal with a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, keep focused on an important speech. In general, it helps some one cope. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling disorder.

An individual that has strives to live with anxiety or an anxiety disorder faces many struggles daily because of the feelings the conditions stimulate. There are an infinite amount of symptoms, causes, and consequences, but an equal amount of treatment options and ways to handle anxiety. Anxiety disorders can be viewed as general or extremely specific, but all in all each one affects the life of a person living with one or knowing someone who struggles with it. Figuring out that I had anxiety took a while, I always felt like I was anxious a lot more than everyone else and beyond stressed at a young age. It just did not click in my head that there might be something wrong. I was living my life in a low state, depressed and having multiple panic attacks through the day at any giving time and there was no obvious thing that trigger them. I was miserable to the point I did not want to get out of bed, I was too afraid. This caused me to become super depressed, to the point of cutting and thinking of my options to end this cruel disorder that was taking over my life.
