Chapter 20, Problem 9TY
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Hox genes are originated in very early in animal evolution. Development biologist have hypothesized the variations of the Hox genes are responsible for formation of new body patterns in animals. Hox genes are forms proteins that encode and specify the characteristics of ‘position’ ensuring that the correct places of the body have the correct structures. Increases in number of Hox genes have been instrumental in the evolution and speciation of animals with more complex body patterns.

Consider the description below and determine who in history most likely wrote it? Name the person, the theory, and give an explanation for your choice. You must reference concepts from our lectures to explain your selection. In order to invade new habitat faster, cane toads on the edge of their range hop further and more often. This causes their legs to stretch more and their muscles to get more direct exercise. This builds up muscle mass and their legs become longer and stronger. When they reproduce this newly acquired leg strength is passed directly onto their offspring. In each new generation the offspring have longer stronger legs.
