Introduction:

The creature that lives on water or on land both is known as amphibian. Amphibians evolved in the ‘Devonian period’ from Sarcopterygian fish. They are ‘cold-blooded animals. They all can and drink, breathe through their thin skin. They lay eggs.

In other words, small vertebrates that need a moist environment or water to survive are termed as an ‘Amphibians’. All the species like a frog, Salamanders, toads, and newts, etc., can absorb and breathe water through their skin. They have specific skin glands.

The Amphibia or Amphibians (Class) includes three following orders:

  1. Anura (Toads and Frogs): Around 6, 500 species.
  2. Urodela or Caudata (Salamanders and Newts): Around 680 species.
  3. Apoda or Gymnophiona (Caecilians): Around 205 species.
