Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Gill arch is also termed as ‘branchial arch’ or ‘visceral arch’. It is the cartilaginous or bony curved bar or bony loop on each side of the pharynx in fishes. It supports the gills of aquatic amphibians and fishes. Nine cartilaginous gill arches are seen in the primitive and modern jawless fishes, for example, Lampreys. These nine cartilaginous gill arches support 8-gill slits.
