What “grade” would you give Ms. Nooyi for her job performance as a strategic leader? What are her strengths and weaknesses? Where would you place Ms. Nooyi on the Level-5 pyramid of strategic leadership and why? I would give Ms. Mooyi a B. The CEO of Pepsico is well informed about the company’s resources and how they are being affected by the external environment. The decisions that she she made to restructure and diversify the company have definitely positively impacted how the company is being perceived. Support A strategic leader should definitely analyze what affects competitive advantage and how exactly the company is underperforming. One of the recommendations would be scenario planning. It would be beneficial to analyze various cases where different product categories can be changed and to see how will the certain change affect the financial performance of the company. The second recommendation would be to synthesize all available input from all possible sources- internal and external and create a strategic vision that will help the company see where they need to make changes and how those changes will help the growth of the financial. Another recommendation would be to provide customers the service that other competitors do not provide be it either discounts or other ways of promotions. This will help differentiate PepsiCo from its competitors. Do you agree with Indra Nooyi’s philosophy that “performance and purpose are intimately linked and you can’t do one without the other”? Support I agree with this statement because I think that purpose is what provides motivation for the better level of performance. Human sustainability, environmental sustainability and the whole person at work being the three main dimensions of the philosophy appeal to a wide range of people.
