The 8th Day Book Report

In the novel Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand a passionate young man named Louie Zamperini has his life turned around by putting his efforts into track where he becomes an Olympic level athlete, but as WW2 breaks out he then enlists in the military later leaving, but only to be drafted again. After crash landing he ends up being captured by the japanese where he is tortured, and picked on by the prison commander but stays “Unbroken”. Louie is affected greatly from different cultures and ethnicities, as in this time period WW2 broke out, people who were rich were relatively untouched by the draft. WW2 in itself was the biggest clash of ethnicities, cultures, and started over anger towards other cultures.

Dien Cai Dau by Yusef Komunyakaa, is a book of poems in which Komunyakaa talks about the hardships of the Vietnam War and his service to the American Army. These poems not only talks about what the soldier have went through but the families of the soldiers as well. This book allows the reader to feel for the soldiers because it vividly describes the harsh reality of being a soldier and how the war can change a person physically and emotionally.

Alex is a 17 year old teenager from Canada, who is a protagonist in the Young-adult fiction book Forbidden City by William.E.Bell. He and his father who works as a journalist travel to China in 1989 to record events and report them back to Canada. Then a protest stirs up and the Tiananmen Square massacre begins. Alex’s father is captured recording the “illegal” events and is arrested. Alex fights back and barely escapes with a few tapes of the protest. He is reunited with his dad, and they return to Canada with tapes of the horrifying events.

The book Eleven Seconds by Travis Roy tells the story of how Travis Roy’s hockey career ended in eleven seconds. Travis broke his neck at a C4 level and became a quadriplegic at the age of 20. Throughout the book you learn about the physical and mental journey he takes as he learns to change his perspective to adjust to the world he now lives in.

In Unbroken, by Lauren Hillenbrand the setting plays a significant role. The story starts the childhood of a man named Louie. He grew up with his Italian family in Torrance, California during the 1920s and 30s. He was the middle child and was considered a troublemaker. Because of his behavior, his behavior, his older brother, Pete, made him try out for the track. His performance was amazing and as a result he was allowed to join the team. Everyday he was training with his brother. He won all of yhe local track meets and went on to run in the 1936 olympics in Germany. He ran the 5,000 meter race. Even though he finished in 7th place, he broke the world record for the fastest final lap with 56 seconds. Louie was determined to perform better in the 1940 olympics.

I really liked this book. I am really glad I read this book because I am interested in the situation between the rebels and the child soldiers. I really like the way the author wrote his book. It was sad, but there were also really happy parts. The way the author put his words together made reading the book really easy to read. For example, “ On the morning that we left for Mattru Jong, we loaded our backpacks with notebooks old lyrics we were working on, and stuffed our pockets with cassettes of rap albums.” The story is very believable. The book was easily understood as well. There were some words that he used in the book that were confusing because some of the words he uses are different from what we are used to. For example in the book, the word for sneakers is crapes. He also calls a porch, a

It shows a few examples of the many risks and disadvantages obesity has, such as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and economic and social handicap. The book also talks about what is recommended in order to stop being obese and to start having a healthy lifestyle. Eating and physical activities in a person’s lifestyle are affected because if a person isn’t eating healthy and exercising then they will slowly become obese. Comparing Genres When it comes to describing such complex events as the Kennedy administration, one cannot understand the full picture through merely one work. By combining different works of both fact and fiction, alongside motion pictures, one can begin to gain a more thorough interpretation of JFK’s presidency. Investigating Garry Wills’s The Kennedy Imprisonment alongside James Ellroy’s American Tabloid, one can develop a clearer picture of how the Kennedy administration functioned.

The title of the book is The boys in the boat. This book is nonfiction and is by Daniel James Brown. These outstanding nine Americans are on their way to gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This book takes place mainly in Germany and the state of Washington. The main character, Joe Rantz, is on his way with his buddies to go to the 1936 Olympics.

This college represents the setting of the whole book. The first picture on the top left-hand corner, the sun, shows that the book takes place in the late spring/early summer.The three pictures below the sun are a Mexican pyramid which is the setting of the ending of the book, a tunnel inside of the pyramid, and a road sign that the characters in the book see when heading to the pyramid. Next to the road sign, there is a calendar, which if you look carefully, you will see an extra day called “Eighth Day!” This day is when most of the book takes place. On the right of the calendar, you will see a bank that all of the lockers have been emptied out. This depicts the time when Jax brings a robber into the Eighth Day who starts to rob the bank.

Coventry by Helen Humphreys and Days of Significance by Roy Williams have a number of sexual interactions. The only problem with all but one of these sexual interactions is that the importance of sexual acts is missing. When the gravity of the war has sunk into Harriet in World War Two her sexual interaction with Jeremy is not special. In Days of Significance the war in Iraq has many influences on sexual interaction, non of which are positive. Also, Overlord and Execution display the lack of importance and some aspects of objectifying woman. I argue using these sources that in times of war sex loses its importance and turns into a casual interaction as well as being prevented all the while objectifying females.

Throughout this journal, one can predict that David will attempt to find a way to cure Epics of their corrupt nature, and that he will reunite with Megan. Initially, there have been junctures in the book that have pointed to David wanting to figure out how to purify an Epic. An example of one of these junctures is that he wants to be able to help Megan, his love interest and a High Epic, regain her humanity. At the end of the first book in the series, Megan uses her Epic abilities to save David and the Reckoners, and as a result gives into the corruption of her mind that comes with using her powers. From that point onward, David has been searching for a way to save her from her demoralization, as well as simultaneously trying to justify the

Eight Days to Live is book 10 of the “Eve Duncan” series written by Iris Johnson. If a reader did not realizes that this book was part of a series Johnson makes sure that the reader would not have to put the book down and start with The Face of Deception (Eve Duncan, #1). Even though the series is about Eve Duncan, an intelligent forensic sculptor who lives to find her seven-year-old daughter’s kidnaper and murder, this book focuses on Eve Duncan’s adopted daughter Jane Maguire.
