This is about the American revolution and the taxes the King of England put on the American colonists and how the American colonists thought that King George was a tyrant. The reason that writing this is to show how the American colonists reacted to the Acts that the King put on them. One of the laws was the sugar act of 1764 and the imports from Britain. There was also the stamp act of 1765 that made the colonists real mad . The result of the Tea act was the Boston tea party lead by the Sons of Liberty. The quartering act was the direct cause of the Boston massacre where eleven people were shot and five of them died.
The British law was the stamp act of 1765 that required the colonists to put stamps on all legal documents. From document 3 they put the tax on court documents and publications and the land agreements between the people. The reason that great Britain put the stamp tax on the colonists is because Britain had to pay for the French and Indian War. The stamp act put the tax on land and the warrants surveying for the land document 3. The colonists started delivering their papers by hand to resist the British law. Everything that to do with a court document you had to have a stamp on it or it would not be legal.
The imports had a lot to do with the causes of the American Revolution like when they passed the Intolerable acts that closed down boston harbor. The King of England went and passed the sugar act that put a tax on everything with sugar in it. The imports went down when King George went and passed the Intolerable that closed down boston harbor document 2. Then the King of England went and took away the sugar acts and then king George went placed the Townshend acts that put a tax on everything except for on tea document 2. The imports basically fell from the year 1764 to 1775 document 2. What the colonists did to respond to the acts is the sons of liberty organized this event called the Boston Tea Party. The sons of liberty went and dressed up as indians and boarded British ships and took them over document 4. The reason that the sons of liberty done this was for one the King was taxing the colonists to death and they didn't want the tax on tea. The colonists though it was unfair to tax
In 1765 the Stamp Act was passed and colonists had various reactions to these acts. The Stamp Act was an act created by the British. This was to pay off the debt they had from the French and Indian War. Items that were taxed were newspapers, dice, legal documents, and playing cards. Basically all printed goods were taxed. Colonists that wrote
The American Revolutionary War was caused by the political disagreements between Great Britain and the American colonies. Most of the Americans initially didn’t want to completely separate from England but wanted to regain the rights that Parliament had taken away from them. England made war unavoidable with its unwillingness to negotiate, heavy taxation of the colonists that violated their rights, and strict trading policies.
Imagine how hard it would be to live in the 1760s. Now imagine living in the 1760s and having a bunch of taxes put on all the things that you use most. This is what the American colonists had to live through. In the 1760s, the British parliament placed taxes and laws on the American colonists. The colonists got very upset with Great Britain and started to protest. Eventually these protests led to the revolutionary war. Two british laws that the colonists thought were unfair were the high taxes on their goods without anyone to represent the colonists and the law that let the british soldiers quarter in the colonist homes. The colonists responded by doing boycotting British Goods and protesting.
The Stamp Act taxed newspapers, pamphlets, legal documents, playing cards, etc. This act was passed March 22,1765. Britain passed it to make more money because they were deep in debt after the French and Indian war.
For a long time their populations were small and it was cheaper and easier for them to import most of their goods. However, Britain's monopoly of raw materials was not always favorable towards the colonists. Perhaps the Portuguese or French were offering a better price on lumber or tobacco. How many colonists would actually refuse a foreign offer because England wouldn't make as much of a profit off of them? Also, as the colonial populations grew, it became wiser for them to start manufacturing more of their own goods. New England became an esteemed ship building center that rivaled or surpassed Britain's. England repeatedly resisted manufacturing in the colonies. They even went as far as to pass laws such as the Wool Act of 1699, the Hat Act of 1732, and the Iron Act of 1750. These laws prevented the exportation of some textiles and all hats, and forbade the building of any new factories that produced iron products. This was done purely for English prosperity without regard to
The Intolerable Acts were put into effect after King George III was furious about the Boston Tea Party. The purpose was to punish Boston by closing the port and putting the city under martial law. Isolating Boston was intended to make an example out of them but instead it increased colonial resistance. The colonists resisted to the Intolerable Acts by creating the First Continental Congress. This congress tried to call for economic sanctions against british commerce and urge Massachusetts to arm a militia. The First Continental Congress committed to their republican values and created the Declaration of American Rights which denied Parliament’s power over colonial affairs and conceded Parliament’s right to regulate trade. These values were also put in the Declaration of Independence. The purpose of the Intolerable Acts were supposed to isolate Boston and punish them but instead it increased the need to become independent from
There was events that lead up to and caused the American Revolution and in their right are just as significant as the war itself in todays society. The American Revolution was caused by many factors but imop the politics is where it went haywire. A lot of the transitions into the war were because of all the Acts that get passed. I believe this aspect strongly encouraged the most tension to start the American Revolution. Around 1745 there was another war that took place called the French and Indian war. The English got into a lot of debt (because war is expensive just ask the bush administration) lol. Then to compensate for their debt they caused they decided to do a little amerian sneak attack called TAXES. Raised the taxes having the citizens repay the government for the actions they took. A lot of the colonist around this time started to change their mind of their ruler. A group of delegates called the First Continental Congress got twelve out of the thirteen colonies to meet towards the end of 1774 in Philadelphia, formed in hope of stopping the taxes from Britain. During this era the colonist started calling themselves Americans. Right before the American Revolution the Americans, separated themselves away from the British and their King, King George III tried get the colonies to stay and join but they wanted to be separate from state. After a while the Americans began to “take care” of themselves and Britain didn’t like that which soon led the start of the American
Colonists protest and bring the Soldiers to trial. The soldiers were found not guilty with the help of John Adams.Paragraph 10- Boston Tea Party Do you know what happened at the Boston Tea Party? The Boston Tea Party was where the Tea Act was passed, making the tea in britain cheaper then the tea in the colonies, and the colonists are ordered to only purchase Tea From the British East India Company. Colonists protest by dumping shipments of tea into the Boston Harbor. This is what happened at the Boston Tea Party. Paragraph 11- Intolerable ActsThe Intolerable Acts? The Intolerable Acts are where the Boston Harbor is closed until the tea from the Boston Tea Party is paid for, while British Troops are conquered , Massachusetts charters cancelled, Royal officials accused of crimes will be sent back to stand trial, General Thomas Gage became the new governor of massachusetts. Colonists resentment toward Britain builds Colonists to start to consider their options for separating from Great Britain. Yet, they are working out their differences diplomaticly.Paragraph 12 - ConclusionIn conclusion, The conflict in the , “road to the revolution” , is all about the Navigation acts, French and indian war, Pontiac's Rebellion, Proclamation of 1763, The Sugar Act,
The American Revolution started when King George the 3rd decided to make the American Colonies pay a large amount of money for the debt of the French and Indian War by giving the colonist different types of taxes like the Sugar Act in 1764. The sugar Act of 1764 was a British Law that was passed on April 5, 1764, that collected incomes from the 13 colonies. The act put a huge tax on the sugar and molasses that were imported into the colonies which were a huge impact for the colonies. The purpose of this Act was to stop the trade between New England and the middle colonies which were the French, Dutch and the Spanish in the West Indies.
Because of Britain?s unfair taxes and laws the colonists reacted in several different ways. Some reactions were economic, some were written, some were political and some were even violent. One reaction was to the taxes put on tea. The colonists had the Boston Tea Party in which colonists dressed as Indians and dumped hundreds of crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. (Doc#6) One form of violent protest was tarring and feathering. (Doc#2) It happened to a British customs inspector named John Malcom. He was stripped naked tarred and feathered, and dragged around town by horse drawn cart. (Doc#3) Another form of violent protest was when a stuffed dummy was hung in Boston representing a British tax collector named Andrew Oliver. Later that same night, his house was torn down in minutes by protesters. (Doc#4) A form of boycott was organized by the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. They made a poster saying not to buy anything from William Jackson, that if they did they would bring disgrace to
The Tea Act of 1773 was a tax on tea but, the British lowered the cost of tea significantly enough that even with the tax, British tea was cheaper than Dutch tea. Also to keep the price down, the British East India Co. got rid of the middleman in the colonies and opened up their own shops. If the colonists bought this tea, they would be accepting the fact that the British could tax without representation. On Dec. 16th 1773 the ships docked at the Boston ports. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and threw 324 chests of tea into the water. England responded to the Boston Tea Party by the Coercive Act of 1774.
Examining the causes of the American Revolution, one would be on a fool’s errand if trying to point to one reason. There were, in fact, many; however, there is one that comes to mind when thinking back to the revolution—that is, the British wanted the colonies to fight in the French and Indian War (The Seven Years War to the rest of the world). The military of the colonies consisted of militias comprised mostly of farmers who were not as committed to the fight as the King was. In order to pay for the war, the King ordered taxes to be imposed on the colonies—without their consent. Money problems are a theme in the causes of the American Revolution, mostly in the form of taxes. The colonists certainly—and rightfully—did not appreciate the unapproved
From 1763, Americans had only to be convinced that an arbitrary ruler- whether Parliament or King-was violating their inherent rights, to feel that rebellion was justified. This conviction was bred in them by the series of events that occurred between 1763 and 1776. The language used to protest the British Acts was legal, and political. But the primary cause of the Revolution was economics.
The American Revolution is a monumental moment in history, as the underdog nation who was definitively outnumbered, outgunned, and poorly trained to fight such a powerful enemy, miraculously beat a well-developed, established nation. The weak and underdeveloped United States of America, who were simple colonies at the time, were fighting for independence against an overbearing British rule. The controlling English hand that hovered over every colonists’ head was deciding their every step, their every breath, and their every thought proved to be too much for colonists, who organized a rebellion against their very mother nation. This rebellion was not without justifiable reason, as the original generals and leaders of the future American government, nicknamed the Founding Fathers, had fought against British rule so that every American citizen attains inalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Among the liberties that were made sure to be included in the Declaration of Independence was the freedom of religion; taking notes from the British rule who had opposed every religion with the exception of Christianity. These religious freedoms had thought to be a blessing for Quakers, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and any other religious or non-religious followers within the borders of the newly developed United States of America, but these colonists would mistake this as a benefit to them. Even though the founding fathers had intended for the United States to
America was able to pry away from its mother country and become its own independent nation through a process known as the American Revolution. The colonies did this for a number of reasons, but the most notable cause for this rebellion were the various restrictions England had placed on them over matters of trade and mercantilism. Foreign relations had always been important to the colonies, but they were restricted to trading with only the mother country, only having contact with the mother country, and only receiving goods from the mother country. Following the revolution was a drastic change in foreign policy, foreign relations, immigration, and the international exchange of ideas and goods in the new nation that shaped it into what it is today.
