4. The next key words were identified in the chapter and serve as an informal outline of the chapter. At the beginning of the chapter, Foster gives a brief example of a quest: a knight (Kip), a dragon road (German shepherds), Holy Grail (wonder bread), one dragon (’68 ‘Cuda), evil knight (Tony) and a princess (the laughing girl). In other words, each story has a quester, a place to go to, along with stated reason to go there and unknown challenges and trials en route; however, at the end there is a real reason for the whole trip - self-discovery (Foster 3). The stated reason is

“There was once a boy named Milo who didn’t know what to do with himself-not just sometimes, but always.” Have you ever been in a magical world with demons and large humbugs and watch dogs? Probably not. But for Milo, everything is a bore. He wants to be somewhere else when he’s there and there when he’s somewhere else. In the Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, Milo encounters countless adventures in a wierd world, and along the way he changes quite a bit.
The book that I have chosen out of the two books that I have read is The Road. I have read both A Lesson Before Dying and The Road had both been interesting to read and are strong contenders to be in the top five for the list. I feel however, that A Lesson Before Dying doesn’t have the type of hook that could make young readers want to continue the book and finish it. The Road, however has an apocalyptic type of setting that adds a sort of mystery and zombie feeling that young readers are usually interested in. The Road is also very easy to read and over a week or a few days you can easily finish it and start on any other books or assignments. A Lesson Before Dying takes a while to get used to and although it can teach you many things about

I read Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. This book is about a young orphan child, with a never-ending imagination, named Anne. Anne has been taken in and out of orphanages all her life. Until, one day Matthew Cuthbert and his sister, Miss Marilla Cuthbert, are interested in having a young boy to live with them. They called the orphanage and told them to send the child on the train. He goes to the train station to pick the child up, but to his surprise he found Anne. Anne tells Matthew how she imagines living there would be like. She was so set on staying that Matthew just couldn't leave her at the train station. He takes her to his house, and while on the journey, Anne is enjoying every moment of the beautiful flowered valleys.
