Suppose you want to do the job described in Problems 6 by slab milling. You have selected a 6-in.-diameter cutter with eight TiN-coated carbide teeth. The cutting speed will be 500 sfpm and the feed per tooth will be 0.010 in. per tooth. Determine the input parameters for the machine (rpm of arbor and table feed), then calculate the Tm and MRR. Compare these answers with what you got for slab milling the block with HSS teeth.

- A two-spindle drill cuts two holes at the same time, one 1/2 inch and one 3/4 inch. The workpiece is 1.0 inches thick. Both drills have point angles of 118 degrees and the cutting speed for the material is 300 ft/min. The rotational speed of each drill can be set individually but the feed rate for both holes must be set to the same value because they move together into the material. The feed rate is set so that the total metal removal rate of both drills combined does not exceed 1.50 in3/min. Determine (a) maximum feed rate (in/min) that can be used, (b) individual feeds (in/rev) for each hole, and (c) cutting time for the operation.arrow_forwardA high-speed heavy duty plain milling cutter 4 inches in diameter with 12 teeth is to be used. Each tooth s expected to remove 0.006 inch. What is the feed per revolution? 2. The feed per revolution is 0.0072 inch/rev and the machine is set for 120 rev/min. - A cylindrical rod is machined using turning processes. It is given that the cutting speed is 120min ¹, and feed per tooth is 0.0025 m/min. The outer diameter is 35mm, the length of the rod is 130m and the inner diameter is 22mm. The number of teeth is 6. Find Rotational speed, Feed rate, Machining time, and Depth of cut.arrow_forwardA shaft groove with a length of 250 mm and a depth of 12 mm is cut by a 20 mm diameter slot cutter. What is the processing time if the cutting depth is to be 4 mm. The feed is 25 mm/min. Over run is 1/2 the cutter diameter.arrow_forwardThe face milling cutter of D = 200 mm used to cut a block which is 200 mm H, 1=480 mm, if f- 0.7 mm/rev is used and the overrun of the cutter is 12 mm and cutting speed 320 mm/min. - For a turning operation, the cutting speed is 2.5 m/sec, and the depth of cut is 3 mm. A thrustforce of 300 N and cutting force of 400 N are measured. The tool rake angle is 10o and thecutting ratio r is 0.5. If Merchant theory applies, use the graphical method. Find the coefficientof friction between the chip and the tool. Also, the power consumed machining the material.arrow_forwardTurning Operation In a production turning operation, the foreman has decreed that a single pass must be completed on the cylindrical workpiece in 4.8 min. The piece is 400 mm long and 150 mm in diameter. Using a feed = 0.43 mm/rev and a depth of cut = 4.0 mm, what cutting speed must be used to meet this machining time requirement? The cut is in a direction parallel to the x‑axis on a CNC machining center. Cutting speed = 30 m/min, and chip load = 0.06 mm. The end milling cutter has two teeth and its diameter = 16.0 mm. The x‑axis uses a DC servomotor connected directly to a leadscrew whose pitch = 6.0 mm. The optical encoder emits 400 pulses per revolution of the screw. Determine (a) feed rate during the cut, (b) rotational speed of the motor, and (c) pulse rate of the encoder at the feed rate indicated.arrow_forward

Assume A = O = 5 mm, VC = 40 m/min and so = 0.1 mm/tooth.arrow_forwardCalculate the machining time to drill four 20 mm diameter holes and one 50 mm diameter central hole in the flange as shown below. Take cutting speed 20 m/min, feed for 20 mm drill 0.2 mm/rev, and for 50 mm drill feed is 0.6 mm/rev, the point angle is 120°?
