Concept introduction:
A protic solvent can solvate both cation and anion, but an aprotic solvent can solvate only cation and not anions. The protic solvent is a compound containing at least one hydrogen atom bonded to an electronegative atom of oxygen, nitrogen, or fluorine and capable of forming a hydrogen bond. The aprotic solvent is a compound which cannot form a hydrogen bond due to the lack of hydrogen atom bonded to an electronegative atom of oxygen, nitrogen, or fluorine. The polar solvent molecule has a partial negative and partial positive charge. The negative ends of the solvent’s dipole solvate the cation strongly, and the positive end of the solvent’s dipole solvate the anion strongly. When two positively charged species are present in the solution, the stronger acid is the one that is less stable.

- 6) When the reversible reaction HC;H;O2 (aq) E> H*(aq) + C2H3O2(aq) is at equilibrium at room temperature, pH of the reaction mixture is 5. What will be the change in pH when you add a large amount of solid acetate (C2H30,Na) to the reaction mixture? a) pH will not change because C2H;O,Na is not a part of the reaction equation. b) pH will not change because acetic acid and sodium acetate form a buffer c) pH will decrease because the reaction will shift towards reactants d) pH will increase because the reaction will shift towards reactantsarrow_forwardIf the G for a reaction is 4.5 kcal/mol at 298 K, what is the Keq for this reaction? What is observed when the H2O concentration in the acetic acid equilibrium becomes relatively low? Relatively high? 4. Humidity indicator cards (HIC) are commonly added to semiconductor shipments to document that the parts were not exposed to humidity.
