Is Friar Lawrence To Blame For Romeo And Juliet's Death?

Most people that have read the book , Romeo and Juliet, usually ask the question; “Which one of the characters is it to blame for the death of the two star crossed lovers?” Unfortunately, the answer to this question is extremely difficult to be found. This is because in this story, “Romeo and Juliet”, there are more than one person to blame. For example, some characters that has contributed to Romeo and Juliet’s death was the Capulets and The Nurse. This is because they didn’t support their precious Juliet all the way. They forced an arranged marriage on her without her consent because they believed that someone who is royal and noble is perfect for anybody. On the other hand, the person that is the most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Friar Laurence, since he is a person who needs to plan stuff out more carefully, and who mostly cares for himself. …show more content…

We, the readers know that he was the character who gave Juliet the vial because he had said to Juliet, “Take thou this vial, being in bed, / and this distilling liquor drink thou off; / when presently through all thy veins shall run / A cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse / shall keep his nature progress, but surcease. / No warmth, no breath shall testify thou livest” (4.1.95-100). On the other hand, the fact that Friar Laurence went to Juliet’s tomb to bring her to his cell doesn’t change the fact that he mostly cares for himself. This was because Friar Laurence had left Juliet at the tomb once she had saw Romeo laying dead on the ground. Instead of leaving her, he should’ve helped her and persuaded her to leave with him to his cell. We, the readers, know that Friar Laurence left Juliet when he had said, “Stay not to question, for the watch is coming / come go, good Juliet. I dare no longer
