Diazomethane is an explosive compound having molecular formula $\stackrel{-}{\text{:C}}{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}{\text{N}}_2^{+}$. The reaction of carboxylic acids with diazomethane gives methyl esters as the final product. This reaction is commonly termed as Wolff rearrangement.
